Restore Normal Lung Function for Horses that are Exposed to Allergens Such as Pollution, Dust & Mold

Properly functioning lungs and airway are critical for any equine athlete to reach their genetic potential. ForeRespiratory was specifically designed to support lung function and address respiratory symptoms such as heaves, coughing, and eye and nasal discharge. The proprietary blend of high-quality herbs helps to restore normal lung function for horses that are exposed to allergens such as pollution, dust and mold. ForeRespiratory also contains BeneCell a special blend of purified nucleotides that has proven equine research for its ability to improve oxygen intake during performance. Finally, the product contains two staples of every ForeFront product; equine specific probiotics and colostrum (see description below**).

Breakdown of Ingredients

BeneCell™ - A proprietary blend of purified nucleotides and other essential nutrients. Nucleotides play a critical role in the body in that they accelerate the cell proliferation process (cell regeneration). Cell regeneration allows an animal to recover much quicker from the type of stress it is under (performance, illness, disease, injury, etc.). As one of the most researched ingredients for use in animal diets BeneCell is well-documented for its efficacy in lung function.

BeneCell Trial Results

The following trial was conducted by an Equine Sport Medicine Unit who were faculty members of the Veterinary Medicine department at a major university. The following trial summary was presented at the Congress of Equine Medicine and Surgery Proceedings.

Two groups of thoroughbred horses, randomly distributed, were compared during a 12-week period for their cardio-respiratory and metabolic adjustment to strenuous exercise. During the whole experimental period, the principal group received once a day BeneCell while the control group received a placebo. All other conditions were similar for both groups. The horses were trained following the same highly standard schedule. The results were remarkable.

  • VO2, a measurement of oxygen intake, was 11% higher in the BeneCell group.
  • VCO2, which measures carbon dioxide production, was 19% higher in the BeneCell group. The lower the carbon dioxide levels the less oxygen is released to the tissues. Low carbon dioxide results in lack of oxygen for the cells. Muscle cells go into anaerobic respiration and produce lactic acid instead of carbon dioxide. Lactic acid is toxic and causes muscles to fatigue and further reduces carbon dioxide levels. The treated group had a 19% increase in carbon dioxide production which is significant.
  • EV, which is the expired minute volume/ VO2, was 14% higher in BeneCell group.
  • OP, which is oxygen pulse calculated taking VO2/HR (heart rate), was 19% higher in BeneCell group.
  • O2 consumption was up substantially. During 9m/sec measurements, the BeneCell group had a 7.2% increase in O2 consumption compared to Control group. During 11m/sec measurements the TG had a 9.6% increase in O2 consumption compared to Control group.
  • O2 volume per heart beat increased by 9.6% and 10.8% with the BeneCell group in two different SETs.

The results of this study is unparalleled to any others in the equine industry. It clearly demonstrates the efficacy of BeneCell for respiratory support, a critical function when optimal performance is desired.

Colostrum - As nature's first food, colostrum supplies immune and growth factors along with a perfect combination of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals to support overall health. Colostrum has applications for every age, stage of life and level of activity. The equine digestive system is largely responsible for good health, and unfortunately, poor health as well. Stress, diet, NSAID and antibiotic use can have tremendous negative consequences on your horse's digestive tract.

As a main ingredient in all ForeFront products, colostrum has been included in ForeRespiratory for its ability to support a healthy immune system. If your equine athlete's immune system is compromised it puts them at a great disadvantage and for this reason colostrum plays a key role in this product.

The colostrum used by ForeFront Equine comes from a proprietary treatment process that is recognized and approved by federal authorities and international product safety organizations. Gentle thermal processing techniques provide assurance against microbial contamination, while protecting superior immunoglobulin content, specific antibodies, growth factors, and other valuable components found within colostrum. Most importantly, the colostrum used in all ForeFront products is collected within the first day of calving. It is during this time that colostrum has the highest nutritional value (IgG, peptides, etc.).

Equine Specific Probiotic/Prebiotic Blend - The performance and health of your horse is dependent upon the proper balance of digestive tract bacteria. For this reason probiotics play a critical role in your horse's diet. They help to ensure a healthy digestive tract; enhance the immune system and defend against pathogenic agents in the digestive tract. ForeFront Equine is the first equine company to use this unique equine specific probiotic blend. Why are probiotics essential and, more importantly, why equine specific probiotics?

The intestinal tract encompasses one of the most diverse microbial settings ever discovered. Dependent on the life style and/or types of nutrition, the digestive tract could be subjected to some minor, or major, alterations with possible implications in disease. Thus, any disruption in the inherent nature of the GIT environment can inadvertently have unfavorable and irreparable even tragic consequences. Today, bacteria known as probiotics are used to maintain the microbial balance of the GIT ecosystem.

Experts agree that persistent viability of probiotics within the GIT is a determining indicator for the efficacy of probiotics, however the health promoting outcomes may be intriguingly challenging. All these happen because the isolated strains, used as probiotics, are not either species specific (also known as indigenous) or carefully selected. In animal supplements, the probiotic strains used are primarily either human or bovine derived. These are considered non-indigenous (foreign) as they are extracted from a non-specie source. Indigenous probiotic bacteria can tolerate the harsh conditions of the GIT (Iyer et al., 2005), while non-indigenous bacteria are unable to endure such harsh conditions. The introduction of non-indigenous probiotics into the intestine can lead to some alterations in the microorganism environment resulting in the emergence of metabolic syndrome, autoimmune diseases, and other disorders in a short- or long-term period (Barzegari, 2014).

For this reason, ForeFront Equine is using a novel probiotic blend that includes two equine specific probiotic strains - Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus salivarius. These indigenous strains were cultured directly from horses (in a non-harmful manner). Being that they are host specific they can withstand the rigors of the equine digestive tract. Each digestive tract (human or animal) has a different pH, temperature and ecosystem. For this reason having a host specific strain greatly increases the likelihood of those strains surviving the complex digestive ecosystem.

Proprietary Herb Blend - The proprietary herbal blend in ForeRespiratory was specifically designed to support optimum lung function, maintain the integrity of a healthy respiratory tract, and treat symptoms of respiratory distress. The herbs not only provide respiratory support but they offer a wide range of other benefits as they work synergistically with the other nutrients in the product. One of the herbs included in this proprietary blend is ginger. Ginger may improve lung function by increasing the lung capacity -- which is the volume of your lungs after maximal inspiration. Animals with chronic lung disease, or a compromised airway, encounter a faster loss of lung capacity than those who do not have lung problems. Decreased lung capacity impairs bodily functions, physical activity and appetite. Other herbs included are coriander, sage, yucca and licorice all of which have shown the ability to improve respiratory health. This herbal blend was formulated specifically for ForeFront Equine by a world renowned herbalist.

**Colostrum Description - Sourcing & Collection

Colostrum is collected from U.S. Grade A dairies. ForeFront Equine's colostrum is sourced from hundreds of farms from the major dairy regions of the U.S. Since the amount of bovine colostrum produced exceeds the needs of the neonate, the excess can be safely collected without impact to the health of calves. Every dairy in their supplier's collection system is operational in accordance with accepted dairy industry practices and is in compliance with 9 CFR 113.450 (C) standards as a licensed product ingredient. Their supplier assigns every procurement dairy with a unique identification number. This identification number is recorded throughout the manufacturing process for full trace-ability.

Immunoglobulins (IgG) are tested. The integrity of the product is guaranteed through strict quality controls and procedures and by utilizing innovative processing systems and drying techniques. ForeFront enforces strict operational quality controls and procedures. Along with public regulators like the FDA, USDA, CDFA, and WSDA, they guarantee their product quality by working with third party organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), NSF International and certifiers such as Kosher and Halal.

All dairies go through a stringent approval process, which includes the guarantee that synthetic hormones such as recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST) and antibiotics will not be allowed in the colostrum. Forefront Colostrum is organic and certified Non-GMO.
